Create Your Own White-wash Furniture

The popularity of whitewash furniture is something that has changed over time. Currently it has found its popularity has reached new heights and pieces have been known to sell for incredible amounts of money. There are places that you can buy high quality white furniture such as beds and bedside tables for good a good price, but if you want to make your own here is how.

1.Firstly you need to take the item of furniture you want whitewashing and sand it down. A sanding block or electrical sander should be suitable to do this but you might need to strip it chemically if there is a thick build up of paint on the piece.Now remove all sawdust and other dirst by wiping it down with a wet cloth. wait for a while so that the item becomes touch dry

2.Next mix together two parts white latex paint with one parts water in a container. You’ll need a 3-inch brush and bowl of fresh water to wipe off mistakes. Brush the wood following along the line of the grain and use broad sweeping strokes. The paint will naturally soak right into the wood so you’ll need to give each patch a number of coats.

3.When the piece is completely covered and still damp, wipe over it with a clean cloth until the grain starts to show through again. One layer will give the wood a lightly stained look and it advised that you repeat the previous steps another 3-4 times to build it up and increase the look of quality. It all depends on your taste though.

4.When you are happy with the look, give it a light sanding again to bring out the grain again and then seal the wood using clear satin polyurethane. Let the product dry again, rub over it gently but thoroughly with a nylon abrasive pad and then repeat this last step as many times as needed to get the right look. Use this method to create a great white wardrobes, bedside table or even dresser.
