Decorate The Guest Room For Worry-Free Comfort

Most people use their guest room for overflow storage and clutter control. But when company comes, there is a rush to make the room comfortable and tidy. Use these tips to decorate your guest room in a simple fashion that will eliminate the worry when the doorbell rings.

The spare room is usually called out for duty when your guests need a place to sleep over night. It’s important that you have clean and quality linens on hand for those occasions. Store three to four sets of comfortable towels in a neutral color in the closet. Also, you’ll need two sets of well made sheets sets and two soft, warm bedding quilts. The bed will need four firm pillows. All of the linens should be in a neutral pattern and color.

There are a few other room essentials for overnight guests. Place a reading lamp on the nightstand with an easy to find switch. Set up a digital alarm clock and make sure to have the correct time on it when your guests arrive. Have a large mirror in the room as well, since they will likely dress in their room, and plenty of storage space for their clothing. An empty chest of drawers works well.

Invest in a quality, well made furniture set for the guest room and you may never have to replace it. Solid wood is a great choice and can be picked up as an entire set, with nightstands and bed in matching styles. Try to fit a double into the room if possible. Sleigh beds are a simple, stylish choice that looks good with any decor. Stay away from things like gold or brass accents that tend to become dated and can be less inviting.

Art on the walls should be understated; landscapes and simple paintings work the best. You can go with a theme room, but don’t go overboard. You want your guests to feel at home, not in a museum. Larger frames should be hung on large walls and small prints work well in interesting layouts. Install room darkening window coverings, but make sure they can be pulled up to allow the sunshine in the room.

Arrange a few spare blankets on the Sleigh bed and place the extra pillows in the closet. Try not to pile or clutter up the furniture and arrange the closet well so that there is space free for guests. Put your own items in boxes or bins and organize them neatly.

Your guests will appreciate the calm and comfortable atmosphere you’ve created for them in this simply decorated guest room. Then they will be sure to visit again soon.
